Starve app on iPhone — typing-first calorie tracker with inline kcal estimates
How it works

Calorie tracking as easy as Apple Notes.

No barcodes. No databases. No manually adjusting "1 medium-sized banana."

01

Type what you ate

Just type your meal like you would in a notes app.

02

Starve will search

Starve instantly finds the nutritional information.

03

Calories, magically calculated

See your totals and macros automatically updated.

Features

Everything you need. Nothing you don't.

Starve is opinionated. We left out the bloat so the part you use every day stays fast.

Free-form text entry

Write meals like you'd text a friend — "apple, cup of milk, scoop of protein." No database, no dropdowns, no portion pickers.

Inline calorie estimates

Calories appear right next to each line as you type. Every food parsed separately — commas, "and," even meal headers like Breakfast.

Voice dictation

Tap the mic, say what you ate, done. Whisper transcribes and Starve logs it — perfect for hands-free during a meal.

Streaks & daily goal

A flame counter for consecutive days logged, a top-bar counter that turns red when you go over, and a remaining-calories pill always in view.

Frequent foods

Foods you log often surface in a quick-add sheet. Built-in common-foods library too — one tap to add a banana, a coffee, an egg.

Smart goals

Enter weight, height, age, sex, activity, and weekly loss rate — Starve calculates BMR, TDEE, and your daily target. Or override it manually.

Stop tracking food. Start eating.

Starve is free to try. No signup. No paywall before you've used it.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

How accurate are the calorie estimates?

For most everyday foods, Starve lands within ~10% of a careful manual log. A built-in correction layer fixes common typos and misnamed foods, and you can edit any line yourself. A "fast and good enough" log beats a slow and perfect one you abandon by week two.

How does Starve set my daily target?

Enter your weight, goal weight, height, age, sex, activity level, and how aggressive you want your weekly loss rate to be. Starve computes BMR and TDEE, then sets your daily calories — with a safe-minimum clamp so the deficit never goes too low. Prefer to skip the math? Use the manual override (1,000–5,000 cal stepper).

Can I log meals by voice?

Yes. Tap the mic and speak — "two eggs, sourdough toast, oat milk latte." It's transcribed via Whisper and appended to your log, with calories estimated per item just like typing.

Is my food data private?

Yes. Your log lives on your device. What you type or dictate is sent to our AI provider for parsing and discarded — we don't store the text on our servers and don't run ads. See our Privacy Policy.

Imperial or metric?

Either. Toggle lb/in or kg/cm in your profile.

What about Android?

iOS only for now. We're a small team and shipping one great app beats two mediocre ones.
